The Spaceguard Centre is already an established tourist destination, as a centre for promoting the public understanding of science and technology. The addition of the Schmidt Camera would greatly enhance the facilities and the opportunities for engaging the public in astronomy, and for conducting education programmes and courses both for local schools and the wider public.

The local community would benefit from increased visitor numbers, and local accommodation providers and traders will benefit from increased trade, especially during the winter months when the observatory is at its busiest.
