Blinking Images Using Astrometrica

We have produced a Video Demonstration so that you can see how to carry out the instructions on this page.

Before you can blink images using Astrometrica, you will need to download some images from our website.

Once you have done this, follow the simple instructions below.

To begin, open the program Astrometrica on your computer.

To load the images you have chosen go to: File > Load Images

Load Images

You can open more than one image at a time by holding down the CTRL key and clicking on each image in turn. When you have highlighted all the images you want to use Click Open.

Each image will open in turn, and you will be shown a box that asks you to confirm the date and time for each image. Just click OK for each image until they have all loaded.

Next, go to: Tools > Blink Images

Blink Command

You will see a new window open, and in this window you will be shown each image in turn so that you can spot the asteroid. Some asteroids are very obvious whilst others are faint and can be difficult to see against the background they are on.

When you think you are ready, you can move on to another set of images. Looking at the comments on the download page you will be able to work out which ones contain asteroids that are likely to be more or less challenging to find.

When you feel ready, you can go on to Level 2 which involves measuring the positions of asteroids and reporting them to the Spaceguard Centre.
